In Istanbul, a commission chaired by the Governor and including representatives from the Provincial Directorate, Treasury, Metropolitan Municipality, and the Provincial Directorate of Industry and Trade determines private nursing home fees. When setting prices, increases in the cost of living index and wholesale price indices (TEFE) are taken into account. Nutrition, rent, heating, maintenance, personnel costs, socio-economic conditions, other current expenses, depreciation, and a profit margin are evaluated. Payments are made in Turkish Lira (TRY), and the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate is 8%.
According to the regulation in force in Türkiye as of 2020, institutions authorized to open and operate nursing homes include the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, other public institutions, municipalities, minority foundations, charitable foundations, and private organizations.
Private nursing home fees are higher compared to state nursing home fees. This difference is mainly due to physical facility standards, the number of specialized staff, and their level of experience.
