Wound Care

In medical literature, wound is the damage to the tissue. The deformation of the skin (tissue) results from:

  • Pressure sores in elderly people who has decreased mobility due to age related circulatory system disorders,
  • Wound caused by diabetes,
  • Post-operative wounds,
  • Wounds resulting from unprofessional self-care,
  • Tissue loss caused by the wounds resulting from burns, and
  • Wounds resulting from improper applications by people who are not professionals.

The aim of wound care is to repair the tissue as soon as possible and correct the functional condition of the damage to the skin, prevent infection and eliminate the pain that restricts daily life under the most appropriate conditions. Old-age chronic diseases and use of medication, infections, bacteremia, denervation, and peripheral and vascular diseases slow down the speed of healing. Wound care varies by closed and open wounds. Frequent dressing is not necessary for dry and clean wounds, which have no discharge. These wounds can be left open for 24-48 hours; however, depending on the location of the intervention, it may be appropriate to cover the wound with a thin dressing material in order to cut its contact with the external environment and protect it from new traumas.

The criteria for a good dressing material in wound care:

  • Wound exudate should be cleaned;
  • Temperature of the would should be checked, and fluid loss should be prevented;
  • The edema should be reduced applying suitable pressure, and dead tissues should be reduced by cleaning;
  • Dressing materials covering the wound (such as gauze, etc.) should not stick to the wound;
  • A wet and humid environment should be created (to increase epithelization); and
  • The dressing should have a suitable aesthetic look and the size of it should be properly adjusted to the size of the wound.

With 22 years of experience and our technical staff specializing in wound care, we first determine the stage of the wounds and then choose the suitable treatment method. The elderly patient is monitored and helped into a different position every two hours. In the meantime, the fluid and electrolyte balance of the elderly is monitored in the chart and the water consumption and fluid output rates during the day are recorded. Highest quality products are used for our guests who receive wound treatment, and they are also given additional foods, vitamins (glutamine, protein foods, fluids and vitamins) to complete the treatment process in a short time. In addition, exercises and massages during periodic controls help the circulatory system works much faster, contributing to healing of wounds.

In addition, when our guests need a bath, their dressings are carefully renewed after the bath. The wound care of our guests is done by nurses with wound care certificates, who ensure that the wounds of our patients heal in the shortest time possible.

Unfortunately, as our healthcare system does not provide sufficient training for professional wound care, wound care not performed in professional facilities like ours may cause infections, pain or irreparable consequences.
